For those who enjoy scuba diving, this iconic wreck is a must if you're staying in the area. At a depth of 30 metres, this relic from WWII is an intriguing snapshot from history. The submarine's crew scuttle the u-boat on the 3rd of June 1945 following Germanys capitulation. You can still see the tower, the pressure hull, consisting of welded metal plates approximately 22mm thick, the combat periscope with the shining stainless steel and the hatch without cover. The reck has become a diverse habitat for sea life. The ship's hull is covered with tiny white anemones (Sargatia Elegans), pouts in the thousands, curious octopuses, lobsters and the beautiful pink anemone community. The tour is operated by Portugal Dive, who have a team of certified diving instructors and not only be your guide but also take care of all details. This experience is for advanced divers only. If you are an open-water diver/level 1, there are other options available. The tour departs from the Marina de Leça, although hotel pick-up is offered.
